Letter received from an Educator
There is a song I listen to, of which
the title eludes me, sung by Singing
Sandra of Trinidad and Tobago. I listen
to this particular song with fondness as
it brings a profound warmth and
connection and love to mind that I have
for ‘my’ Kindermusik ‘kids’. Here are a
few of those lyrics. I have altered it
slightly to make it dual gender…
“…S/he’s Perfectly untamed,
extraordinary, Waiting for the world to
grow……No one knows how far s/he’ll go.
In their imagination Stories evolve,
magical dreams burst at the seams…
Who is that child riding on the star? So
young, so free, tell me who you are…”

These words bring waves of emotion as
each little face appears before me - at
least one of those lyrics apply to them
through the Kindermusik philosophy.
The philosophy of this phenomenal
program advocates a child-directed
approach, which truly does spark the
imagination and as a bonus, it is
developmentally appropriate! Kindermusik
allows for freedom through exploration
in a fun-filled and safe environment in
which families can participate. It is
process not performance orientated and
above all, it sees potential in each
child, through whole child development.
Read those lyrics again. Is that how you
see children? Is this the kind of
educator you would like to be? How
wonderful when someone truly cares.
Kindermusik does. My heart tells me so
and it’s been pretty accurate up to now.
Having come from a dance background, I
delayed for seven years when deciding to
become involved in Kindermusik, thinking
that I needed a formal music background.
Don’t take that long to make your
decision. Kindermusik is not merely a
career, it is a calling and a most
fulfilling one at that.
Finally taking the plunge turned my life
around and I will be eternally grateful
for this richly satisfying opportunity.
You will have so much to offer as a
Kindermusik educator, not to mention the
rewards of working with children! So
don’t delay any longer than is
necessary; make that decision today!
Warmest regards,
Catherine Ma.
